Accessible only by air or sea, the original Hotel Las Cruces Palmilla was an exclusive getaway. In 1956, Don Abelardo Rodriguez, son of the former President of Mexico, and his wife Lucille Bremer — a Hollywood actress — opened the original Palmilla Hotel. Accessible only by yacht or private aircraft, the boutique 15-room resort was a secluded jewel that quickly drew celebrities, dignitaries, and world travelers seeking exclusivity.

Not luxury by today's standards, but it had all the hallmarks of affluence, laid down with his development of the Palmilla Peninsula.
